Carolyn McDiarmid lives in Geelong with her husband and 4 boys. She has worked as a registered nurse and midwife for more than 20 years.
Carolyn’s 3rd son was born with Down syndrome which saw Carolyn’s passion change direction from childbirth to working with families who have a child with a disability. She has been in her current role, Parent Support Program Coordinator at Gateways Support Services since 2013 and loves supporting families in their disability journey. She also works on a casual basis at ACD in the Education Team. She has co-published a book, Now I See, which is a collection of stories from parents who have a child with Down syndrome about how their child has enriched their lives, with the aim of giving positive insight for new parents into raising a child with Down syndrome. She has always had a keen interest in women’s health and wellbeing and loves being able to blend her passions through being a part of the HMHF team. Having put many suggestions from the workshop in place after completing the workshop herself, she wants as many women as possible to learn to care for themselves and therefore sustain their caring capacity.
